Extending your period of stay

You may apply to extend of stay from three months before your period of stay expires to Fukui branch office, Nagoya Regional Immigration Services Bureau. It is illegal to stay after the expiration, so be sure to apply to extend of stay before termination.

Please prepare following documents and IAD also prepare some documents for this procedure. Please contact us before applying. You can start applying 3 months before termination.

[Required Documents]

  • Application for Extension of Period of Stay (Prepared by applicant p.1-3)
  • Application for Extension of Period of Stay for organization (Prepared by IAD p.1-2)
  • JPEG photo data (4cm×3cm)
  • Certificate of Enrollment
  • Transcript (Research students need “研究内容証明書(Certificate of Research Activities)” prepared by your supervisor. )
  • Passport
  • Residence card
  • 6,000JPY Revenue Stamp
  • Documents proving the applicant’s ability to pay expenses while in Japan

-Private financed students: “Letter of Pledge”　日本語　English　Chinese

-MEXT students: “Certificate of MEXT” (Prepared by IAD)

-Other government sponsored or scholarship students: a copy of proof the fact

  • (For students repeating a year only) Statement of Reasons for Repeating a Year (Free format)

 

★After receiving new residence card, please come to IAD with your new card.

 

★Those engaged in activities outside the scope of their visa status (such as part-time work) at the time of application must also submit an application for Permission to Engage in Activity Other Than That Permitted Under the Status of Residence Previously Granted.
